Why is Productivity Important?
Simply put, productivity is important because you can accomplish more. If you are being productive, you are able to get more done in less time. When you are more productive with your time, you will have more time to enjoy and do what you want to do.
An additional benefit of being productive is feeling a sense of accomplishment. When you have a sense of accomplishment you will want to accomplish more. Overall, being productive gives you a greater sense of purpose.
As you can see, being productive can really help transform your life and help you to reach your goals. Are you going to be productive 365 days a year? Probably not, but you can try! Always try!
There are definitely distractions that detour your productivity. The most important thing is awareness of these distractions. If you are aware, you can stop and refocus back to being more productive.
First Distraction: Starting Late
You’ve probably heard of the saying, “the early bird gets the worm”. The meaning behind this famous saying is that it is important to start early to maximize the potential outcome. If you start too late, you might not be as focused for a number of reasons. You could be stressed and panic about not having enough time. You will not be able to be as prepared as you would if you started earlier. Start earlier than later to get better results.
Second Distraction: Technology
Technology can be a blessing, but it can also be a curse when it comes to being productive. Texting and social media can be a big distraction from your productivity. Technology can have long-term productivity consequences.
My advice with limiting technology distractions is to be more aware of how it can be a distraction. When you are aware that technology is a distraction, shut it off. Whether it’s your TV, phone, iPad or any other device, shut it off so you can focus more on being productive.
Third Distraction: Overly Difficult Work
Overly difficult work can be a distraction because you might not want to attempt doing it, so you put it off. The work probably isn’t going to disappear, so it’s best to do the most difficult task(s) first thing of the day. When you do this, the rest of your day will be so much easier and you will feel better.
Fourth Distraction: Being Unorganized
Being unorganized can really take a toll on your productivity. If you are going to get something accomplished, you have to know how you are going to accomplish it. Knowing how to accomplish it is being organized. If you know the steps then you are going to be more productive. If you don’t know the steps then you will have a setback in being productive.
Four Ways to be More Productive
One: Wake up Earlier
Waking up early gives you a head-start to your day, as long as you use your time wisely. Have a plan in advance and be prepared to take action on your morning plan when your alarm clock goes off. Also, their tends to be less distractions in the morning.
Two: Complete Your Harder Tasks First
We all get those tasks we don’t want to do, but we have to do them. Plan ahead and complete your least favorite task early in the day. When you complete that task, your outlook on the rest of your day should be much brighter.
Three: Limit Distractions
Turn-off any electronic devices or go to a location where there is no distractions. When you limit your distractions you are allowing yourself to be more focused on the task you are wanting to complete.
Relaxing is another great way to be more productive. Sometimes we can all get overwhelmed with the tasks we have to complete. Taking a break and relaxing can calm your mind. When you return to completing your tasks you should be able to focus better.
Productivity is important because being productive can help you accomplish what you are wanting to accomplish. As mentioned in the article, there can be distractions that can prevent you from being productive. There are also ways to help you to be more productive.
