Feel free to refer to my reliable organizing process, which is what I also use for desk organization. The 5 tips that I will be sharing will help you to make a change for the better!
Clean and Organize a Desk
Step 1: Prepare
Preparation is always the first step in organizing a desk. What do you want your end result of your desk to look like? How much do you need on your desk? What can go into a filing system or cabinet? Make sure you ask yourself those important questions. How you answer them will get you the results you do or don’t want. Always make sure you are truly ready for your desk to be organized. If you are only half interested, you will get half the results you desire.
Step 2: Take Action
Now is the time to completely clear off your desk. As you are doing this, ask yourself how much of what is on your desk is needed. Does everything add value to being on your desk? Is most of it just clutter that needs to be gone? Go ahead and sort your desk items into three sections, keep, discard and donate.
Step 3: Discard or Donate
Onward to discarding or donating. Ask yourself if the items you are no longer using could be of use to someone else. If you feel that you have items that could be beneficial for someone else, then donating is the way to go. But, if the item is worn out and shabby, then recycle or trash if you must.
Step 4: Replace
This is now the perfect time to organize your desk precisely how you have envisioned it becoming. Place your items in a manner that makes sense to you. By doing this, you will have everything exactly where you want it. Having your items where you want them, should reduce some of the stress you previously had with your desk being unorganized.
Step 5: Maintain
Hooray! You’ve made it to the last step! The only thing is, this is the hardest step to follow. Why? Because, as you accumulate new items or papers, you will need a designated place to put them. All new items will need a “home” to go to in order to maintain your new current level of organization. Otherwise, you will have to start back at step one several times. I know you can do this! Value your time and try to maintain the new organized desk that you have, so you don’t have to start over.
