How Long Do Spices Last?
There is conflicting information in regards to how long spices last. Some may say that ground spices normally lose their freshness after six months, and that whole spices can last up to five years. I always follow the expiration date on the spice jar.
How to Organize Spices in a Cabinet
Step 1: Remove Everything and Wipe the Cabinet Shelf Down
The first step in organizing a spice cabinet is to remove everything. It will be much easier to remove everything from the space to get it organized. A blank space is essential for getting a new, organized spice cabinet.
After you have removed everything from your spice cabinet, it’s time to wipe the cabinet down. There is a good chance there might be some spilled spices or stains. Wiping the spice cabinet down will help you to be able to start fresh with your upgraded spice cabinet organization.
Step 2: Add Your Spice Cabinet Organizer
After you have cleaned your spice cabinet, you can add your spice cabinet organizer. My spice cabinet organizer has adjustable 3-tiered levels. The cabinet organizer is 16.75″ and expands up to 32″ wide. The spice cabinet organizer is easy to care for. If you get any spills on the organizer, all you have to do is wipe it down with soap and water.
Step 3: Prepare Spice Jars and Fill Them with Spices
Prepare your spice jars by cleaning them according to the cleaning instructions. I wiped down my spice jars with soap and water and wiped the lids off with a cloth. After you have prepared your spice jars, fill them with spices. You might want to keep the original spice container by your new spice jars so you don’t mix your spices up.
Step 4: Place Lids and Labels on the Spice Jars
Now it’s time to place the lids on your jars. After you have placed the lids on your jars, place your spice labels on the front of your spice jars. I like to use my Dymo Label Manager to print and place the expiration dates on the bottom of the spice jars.
Step 5: Alphabetize Your Spices on the Spice Shelf
In the fifth and final step, it’s time to take all of your spices and alphabetize them when placing them on your spice shelf. And there you have it! You are all done! Now you have a beautifully organized spice cabinet that will make it easier for you to find your spices.
Conclusion
If your spice cabinet is a mess and you are looking for a simple solution, my step-by-step process can get you positive results. Having an organized spice cabinet is easy with my spice cabinet organization ideas. You might even feel like a professional organizer when you are done!
