How to Plan in 5 Effective Steps
Step 1: Gather Data
You will need to specifically know what you are wanting to accomplish in order to make a clear plan. Let’s say you want to plan a wedding, you must take your ideas and put them in writing so you don’t forget them. Putting your ideas in front of you will get you on your way to getting your desired results.
Gather as much data to help you create the best plan. The more detailed you are in the beginning of your plan, the more likely you will achieve the end results you want.
Step 2: Prioritize Your Goals and Objectives
In order to have a great plan, you have to prioritize the goals and objectives of your plan. I recommend using the SMART formula for planning and prioritizing goals and objectives:
- Specific: What exactly will you do or accomplish? Make your goals specific and narrowed down for more effective planning.
- Measurable: How will you know your goal has been achieved? Define what evidence will prove you are making progress.
- Attainable: Is the idea attainable? Do you have the skills to achieve your goal? Make sure you can accomplish your goal within a realistic timeframe.
- Relevant: Is the idea what you really want to do? Your goals should be in alignment with your long-term objectives.
- Time-bound: When will you be able to complete your goal? Set a realistic, yet ambitious end date to stay motivated.
Step 3: Develop Your Plan
After you have prioritized your goals and objectives, it’s time to develop your plan based off of those goals and objectives. Think of the end goal you have in mind and work backwards.
In this step, you are essentially making your road map for your plan. Your road map is going to show you how you get from your goals and objectives to your desired end result.
Step 4: Execute and Manage Your Plan
Since the development of your plan is complete, it’s time to execute and manage your plan. Since you have worked hard up to this part, make sure you execute and manage your plan well.
Pay attention to how your plan is going and stay on top of any changes, in order to keep your plan on the right track. If you stay on top of any changes that you encounter, you are likely to still get the results you desire.
Step 5: Review and Continuous Improvement
Congratulations! You have achieved the result(s) you want and now your focus is on reviewing and continuous improvement. Since you have put so much hard work and effort into getting this far, be sure to revisit your end result.
Take time to make any adjustments for continuous improvement. If you keep your eye on continuously improving your plan, you will minimize the chance of having to redo or adjust your plan too much.
Conclusion
I hope that you will save time planning and be more effective with the five step process mentioned in this blog post. The more effective you become at planning, the more time you can save.
