Declutter and Organize Anything
Step 1: Prepare
Preparation is the most important step. Without preparation, it’s challenging to do anything, let alone organize anything. In this step, you’ll want to make sure that you are ready. I mean really ready to organize whatever it is you are craving to organize. If you aren’t in it to win it, it won’t work out in your best favor. All good intentions. If you aren’t really wanting to organize then it will be a challenge to get past this step. With that being said, if you are ready you’ll want to block out time for your organization project. Whether it’s a five minute project or an hour long project or more, you need to be ready. You will also want to make sure that you have no distractions when you choose to organize.
Step 2: Take Action
It is time to take action towards your organization goal. Go ahead and remove everything from the area that you are organizing. The space you’re organizing needs to be a blank canvas for you to create your magic. An artist doesn’t already have art on their canvas prior to creating a masterpiece. Blank space is essential in order to have a vision for how you want to organize it. I recommend putting your items in three sections. Section one is keep. Section two is discard. And section three is donate.
Step 3: Discard or Donate
Now that you have put your items into three sections, it’s time to get rid of the items that you no longer want to keep. If they are still in good condition and could be used again then donate them if you can. If not, then recycle them or trash them only if you have to.
Step 4: Replace
The time has come to take the items that you want to keep and put them back in an organized fashion. Honestly, do what works for you. If your method isn’t like mine or someone else’s that’s just fine. It’s still best if you can have like items grouped together. Just make sure that you organize the space so that you will not be intimidated by it. Make it work for you!
Step 5: Maintain
You have gone to the effort and decluttered and organized your space, so you’ll want to maintain the space. In order to do this, you’ll want to have the items put back in the same place that they were taken from. If you add anything new to the space, make sure it makes sense and fits well into what you have taken the time to organize.
