Why is Decluttering and Organizing Important
Decluttering and organizing is important because it can save you time, money and also reduce stress. When you are organized and don’t have clutter, you save time finding what you need because every item has a home. You also save money when you have a clutter-free home and are organized. The reason you save money is because you will know exactly where each item in your home is. When you know where each item in your home is, you are less likely to buy duplicate items and waste money. And, you also reduce your stress, due to being able to save time and money.
The process of decluttering and organizing can seem overwhelming, but you can achieve amazing results if you take the process one step at a time. Your life can change because decluttering and organizing can help simplify your life.
5 Step Process to Declutter and Organize Anything
Step 1: Prepare
Preparation is the most important step. Without preparation it’s challenging to do anything, let alone organize anything. In this step, you’ll want to make sure that you are ready. I mean really ready to organize whatever it is you are craving to organize. You will not get the results you desire, if you aren’t in it to win it. If you aren’t really wanting to get organized then it will be a challenge to move forward.
If you are ready to declutter and get organized, you’ll need to block out time for your organization project. Whether it’s a five minute project or an hour long project or more, you need to be ready.
You will also want to make sure that you have no distractions when you choose to organize. Make sure you put up all electronics and are free from any distractions that can interrupt your decluttering and organization process.
Step 2: Take Action
Since you are fully prepared for decluttering and organizing, it’s time to take action towards your organization goals. Go ahead and remove everything from the area that you are organizing. The space you’re organizing needs to be a blank canvas for you to create your magic. An artist doesn’t already have art on their canvas prior to creating a masterpiece. Blank space is essential, in order to have a vision for how you want to organize it.
I recommend placing your items in three sections. Section one is the keep section, section two is the discard section, and section three is the donate section.
Step 3: Discard or Donate
Now that you have placed your items into three sections, it’s time to get rid of the items that you no longer want to keep. If those items are still in good condition and could be used again, donate them if you can. If those items aren’t in good condition, recycle your unwanted items or trash them, if recycling isn’t an option.
Step 4: Replace
The time has come to take the items that you want to keep and put them back in an organized method. Do what works for you. If your method isn’t like mine or someone else’s, that’s just fine.
It’s best if you can have like items grouped together. Just make sure that you organize the space so that you will not be intimidated by it. Make your space work for you!
Step 5: Maintain
Since you have gone to the effort of decluttering and organizing your space, you’ll want to maintain the space. In order to maintain the organization system you put in place, you’ll want to have the items put back in the same place that they were taken from. If you add anything new to the space, make sure it makes sense and fits well into your new organization system.
