Make sure you ask yourself those important questions. How you answer them will get you the results you do or don’t want. Always make sure you are truly ready for your desk to be organized. If you are only half interested, you will get half the results you desire.
Step 2: Take Action
Now is the time to take action and completely clear off your desk and clean it. As you are doing this, ask yourself how much of what is on your desk is needed. Does everything add value to being on your desk? Is most of it just clutter that needs to be gone?
Go ahead and sort your desk items into three sections. Those sections are keep, discard and donate. In the keep section, organize the items that you are keeping. You should place all items that can’t be donated and reused in the discard section. In the donate section, place any items that can be reused by someone else.
Step 3: Discard or Donate
Now is the time to discard or donate. Since you already sorted your items into three categories, remove the discard and donate items from your desk area. Take the items that you are discarding and place them in the trash. And finally, take your items that you will be donating to a location in your home or vehicle so you can easily remember to donate them after you are done organizing.
Step 4: Replace
Now the perfect time to organize your desk precisely how you have envisioned it looking. Place your items in a manner that makes sense to you. By doing this, you will have everything exactly where you want it. Having your items where you want them should reduce some of the stress you previously had with your desk being unorganized.
Step 5: Maintain
Hooray! You’ve made it to the last step! The only thing is, this is the hardest step to follow. Why? Because, as you accumulate new items or papers, you will need a designated place to put them. All new items will need a home to go to, in order to maintain your new level of organization. Otherwise, you will have to start back at step one several times.
I know you can do this! Value your time and try to maintain the new organized desk that you have, so that you don’t have to start over at step one.
