What is Productivity?
Simply stated, productivity is the effectiveness of output. It is possible for output to be effective and non-effective. Have you ever had a time when you were working on a task, but you weren’t making any progress? That is an example of being non-effective, which is also saying that your time wasn’t being spent in a productive manner. You have probably also had another time when you were accomplishing everything you wanted to. That would be an example of your output being effective. When your output is effective, you will have a higher rate of productivity.
Why Can it be Challenging to be Productive?
The main reason that it can be challenging to be productive is due to lack of focus. If you aren’t focused on the task(s) you want to accomplish, your productivity is not going to be high. Take a moment to think about why you aren’t focused. Do you not like what you are doing? Do you feel overwhelmed? There are always options to help you become more productive. You just need to be aware and be willing step forward to working towards accomplishing your task(s).
You have the power within you to be productive. You just need to tap into your potential. All you need is the belief that you can get started and your halfway there. Don’t quit and you will get results.

Follow a Morning Routine to be More Productive
When you start your morning with structure from a routine, you are starting your day off productively. We all need structure to get positive productivity results. Sure, you can be spontaneous, but you aren’t going to get as good of results that you would from having a morning routine. There are several science-backed benefits that come from having a morning routine. A few examples are that you will feel more in control of your day, combat forgetfulness, lower stress and increase productivity. If you start your morning with a routine, you aren’t wasting time. You are making the most of your morning.
Use a Planning System that Works for You
Be more productive by incorporating a planning system in your home life. There are several systems you can choose from. There are bullet journals, traditional planners and guided planners.
The modern definition of bullet journaling was coined by Ryder Carroll. Bullet journaling is a specific method of using a notecard to create a customizable planner that works specifically for you. You can use a blank notebook to start journaling. Additional options for bullet journaling are dot grid notebooks, lined, squared and blank pages.
Traditional planners are available in a variety of styles. A traditional planner will always have a monthly calendar layout, weekly layouts, and extra pages. The extra pages usually have a contact page, notes page, planning page and an important holidays page.

The act of brain dumping is to express your thoughts and ideas on paper. In other words, you take all of the tasks and thoughts you are thinking about accomplishing and you put it all on a piece of paper. Brain dumping is a great start to being productive at home. You are releasing what you are thinking onto a piece of paper. That is a great step towards productivity at home.
Complete the Most Important Task First
As long as you have had a good nights rest, you will be at peak productivity in the morning. Therefore, the morning time is the best time to complete your most important task, before your other tasks. When you are at your peak productivity time and you accomplish your most important task, that’s a win/win for you. If you try to complete your most important task when you aren’t feeling productive, your results might not be what you are wanting.
Your brain can only focus on one thing at a time, therefore multitasking is not a good idea if you are trying to be more productive at home. Multitasking is not a realistic choice if you are wanting to get your tasks accomplished. You might get parts of your tasks accomplished, but you can only get your tasks completely finished if you give them your full attention.
Time Block Your Tasks
I am a huge fan of time blocking. My post, Time Blocking 101, can help you get the most from your schedule. When you get the most from your schedule, you are being productive. You will get great results if you choose to incorporate time blocking into your daily schedule.
You need to take breaks, just like you need a good nights rest. Taking breaks allows you to pause your task and refresh your mind before returning to your task. Resting can a useful way to recover and feel revitalized.
Minimizing distractions is crucial for being more productive. If you are trying to accomplish a task and your phone is sending you alerts or your television is on, you aren’t giving the task your full attention. Minimize those distractions and increase your productivity at home.
Mark Your Completed Tasks and Take a Moment to Celebrate
When you mark your completed tasks and take a moment to celebrate, you are recognizing your accomplishment. If you recognize that you have completed a task, you are more likely to stay motivated to complete other tasks.
Have an Evening Routine
Having an evening routine is just as essential as having a morning routine. When you have a productive evening routine, it will set you up mentally and physically for a productive tomorrow. Make sure you give yourself time to unwind and relax, so that you can be more at ease and have a good nights rest.
